Fitting a table in a room perfectly - Billiards-Talk Forums

Ok the house I'm looking at has a 26' by 14'6' room. I'm giving my home 8' table to my father in law and I'm going to get something new. I know I can fit a 9' in the room but on the sides it will be just the bare minimum for space required.

Lately I've been tossing around the idea of getting a pro 8 and having a couple of extra inches to spare.

How do you guys feel about this? What would you prefer? Having the 9' and have just the very bare minimum on the sides or a more comfortable oversize 8'?

Keep in mind this table will get tons of playing time. A good 20 or more hours a week, and a house tournament once a week.

With that much play - I would go with the pro 8 or knock down a wall and move it back a foot for the 9 footer. Pro 8 is probably going to be easier.

I'd go with the 9ft. Normally when you shoot at a ball against the rail, you elevate the cue a little anyway. Reason is, if you shoot with the cue level then you can't help but only put follow on it because you can only see the top half of the ball. I think you have just enough space where you can get away with a 9ft. If you only had 14', then I would suggest a smaller table. Besides, it's better to practice on the same size table as you'll play tournaments on. And if you do intend on entering tournaments, then get yourself Simonis 860 cloth. But I'm sure you already knew that.

My opinion is to never comprimise your table for the room. Make an arrangement with the room to accomodate the table. If you get an 8' pro and tend to shoot tournaments on a full 9' table then you may be at a distinct disadvantage.

I agree... I would do whatever I could to fit the 9ft. Perhaps just making a square hole in the wall. Start it just level with the table, and frame it in? That way you have room for your cue to travel, and it opens the room up a bit.

That reminds me of my brother, although he has plenty of room for his pool table, he took down a section of his ceiling for his dart board.

Bishop,

If you are going to be putting any pool room furniture in the room with the table (i.e. spectator chairs, bar tables, wet bar, entertainment center, etc.), I would recommend getting the pro 8. If you can shoot pool, you can shoot pool on any size table 9' or less IMO.

The room I put my table in (a 4' X 8') is 15 1/2' X 19 1/2'. I have 4 spectator chairs and 2 tall bar tables. If I shoot serious pool with someone, I have to move one of the bar tables into the kitchen or into a corner to get it out of the way. My tables width with the 15 1/2' wide room is a perfect fit.

I can tell you right now that a 9-footer is gonna be crowded in a room that is only 14 1/2' wide.
