Fairly new to APA
Not a lot of action on this APA thread. I'm wondering if it is because of Rule #1 on the Forum Rules?
Actually, I'm in my second session of APA eight-ball and my first session of APA nine-ball. I'm doing fairly well in both leagues and my team is solidly in first place in the nine-ball league. It's been, for the most part, a lot of fun. There have been more than a few disappointments with players who obviously should be rated higher than they are. And it seems like it's always my poor 'ol wife that ultimately has to shoot one of these players. She's a SL3 and shoots every bit like it. But, for socializing, it's been a blast. We've been makin' a lot of new friends all the while enjoying some good friendly competition. Let's get this thing movin' here and post some of your good experiences. Maniac |

I have never played APA although, I would love to get back into playing and I heard APA is what I need to get into. I have played BCA and Valley for years but when I moved to Texas (DF/W area) the work life did not allow me to continue playing. I look forward to reading others thoughts on this thread and thanks for getting us started.

I've been a long time APA Member and it goes to show you that no matter what part of the world that you are in people seem to think that shooters are underrated.I shoot in Maryland. The Baltimore Area and it is quite common for people to say this when they loose.I have found that not only is the rating system fair it is pretty right on.Some try to beat it but are eventually caught and LOCKED AT A HIGHER SKILL LEVEL.No Matter where you shoot the staff that enters the Data only have the Score Sheet to go by so the main thing is fill out your score sheet correctly.Just tell your wife to hang in there. She's bound to get a shooter thats more on her level..I think that covers that part of your concerns.I have been shooting 4 night's a week. Two 8 Ball and two 9 Ball.Starting this session I'm only doing one night which is Sunday Night 9 Ball.I prefer 9 BAll over 8 Ball for the fact that shooting 8 Ball you can shoot the best game of your life and loose.Like scratch on the 8 after working on a BREAK AND RUN.So now the other shooter hasn't even used their stick and they have just won a game.9 Ball on the other hand if I do that they get 2 points and the break.I get 8 points and am closer to winning..As far as the BREAK,I think it is highly overrated. Now I'm talking about my BREAK.I'm not a big fan of Breaking.(BAD BACK)..I have found that APA gives me a reason to leave the house.I have met a lot of friends over the years and have a lot to still meet.I also Referee at our Higher Level Tournaments. So you get to see different styles of shooting and some really good matches while every now and then being interupted to watch a hit or check for a frozen ball.Maniac,if your team ever makes it to Las Vegas post it here.I may be out there refing and I'll look you and your wife up.It's always nice to meet more APA friends.....MIKE

I have been playing APA every session since 93. Went to Vegas in 99,03. I seen alot of stuff. You will run across a sandbagger every now and then but they always get theirs in the end. I think the APA has one of the better handicap systems. I hope you and your wife will injoy playing APA. You will meet alot of good people.

Been playing APA for several years. I just love playing pool and APA gives me a chance to play different players. Went to Vegas in 2004, what a blast. Our team is qualified to play in City Cup for the trip again. I think APA is great for folks that want to enjoy pool in a social atmosphere.

Ahhh I believe I have been shooting in APA for the last 9 years straight non stop. Been to Nationals before the last time being 2005 and fell just short this last year for 8 & 9 ball. I used to play Sun Mon 9-ball and then Tue Wed 8 ball...but that consumed too much time away from my son so now I only play Sun 9-ball and Wed 8-ball. And run a tourney on Thursdays. I for the last few years have honestly become a lil bored with the APA members in my area and wish like hell my schedule could work out to where I could find different competition or shoot in BCA or TAP. But unfortunately it isn't working out that way so I just continue to run racks the nights that I already shoot. |
