Tip Softness
 

I have been playing on and off for about 20 years, but just now getting serious. I play with a Viper Cue with a 12mm glue on Le Pro tip. It has a hardness rating of 78.2. My question is what is a good all around tip for playing and being able to get good cue ball action?

My son bought a Viper against my recommendations because the High Schoolers think it's "cool" I put on a medium Hercules layered tip for him, and his game elevated instantly. Tips are a very subjective decision, but if you search the forums, you'll see the same tips recommended over and over. Ya gotta start somewhere to find what works for you. The premium medium tips such as Moori, Talisman, Hercules, Sniper etc. are a good place to start. Then go from there depending on how it feels and works for you. Hell, some guys just love a Triangle and that's a low price med-hard pressed tip. If you're having it done somewhere ask the installer for an opinion. These guys aren't going to keep a tip in stock that nobody buys, so they have a feel for what's hot. Good Luck

i have only tried 3 tips lepro,triangle, and sniper.the sniper is the best of the 3 imo,if only for the fact i miscue alot less with this tip.

I have shot with a Moori Medium for several years now and love it. I tried a Talisman Medium, which is harder btw, but I had 2 delaminate on me and won't be using those again. The Sniper is a very nice tip as well. With my new Sugartree, I am going to let Erik put whatever he wants that's medium/hard on it and just play with that. Softer tips give you more control, but you lose some feel I think. Harder tips hit more firm, but you tend to miscue more unless you chalk it alot.

I just changed from an elkmaster to a LePro, and there is a large difference. I really dislike the LePro, but I feel as though I haven't used it enough to really give it it's fair shot. I'm going to give it about a month and if I keep disliking it I will go back to what is familiar.

I just switched from Moori soft to the Tiger Sniper and I have been shooting much better lately. I don't think it is all in the tip but it is part of it for sure.

I like Morri Soft, Sniper, and I used Elkmaster for years, Lepro isnt bad, if you like Elkmaster try Tiger Products Soft, its made of Split Calf skin and to me plays much like a Elkmaster but lasts a lot longer.. only problem is that the tip is solid white, so you might want to color the side's..

I had a Morri Medium put on my best Cue years ago and loved it.Then I could only afford Cheepo's so I got Le Pro's put on it.Well I got someone to get a Morri Med put on the cue that I shoot with now and I love it.Of course I don't break with it.Now for the cue's that I shoot and break with I have Triangle Medium's on those and they work wonders for shooting and breaking.They don't mushroom like a Le Pro.I haven't tried any of the other tip's mentioned.

sniper tips realy are not as great as people say stay with a good pressed triangle or a tailsman med pig or a moori and you be good to go. IMO:)

I use a hard Killer works great. Was using a hard Moori whick was ok , but the Killer seems to do a better job. Just have to remember to chalk after every shot.---Smitty

I have tried almost every tip made. :o

I would recommend a Hercules or Sniper.
